With the right group of people it could be an amazing way to live, at least partially insulated from corporatism's atomization and demoralization

Problem is this tends to draw kooky people

You mean live with them?

I am part of a commune of people who are against corporations and commercial bullshit. We basically have a model similar to MLM, and we live a life full of fun, no bosses, no schedules, no hierarchies. Just living the life.

I would join a commune with a large cash deposit/buy-in. Like we all pay a lump sum for amenities and all the other bullshit that everyone will inevitably not want to deal with. Distribution of labor and bitterness over lifestyle compromises are traditionally what tear this situations apart. But if I could just buy into a managed rural drug orgy, then few qualms if I was feeling the vibe. The lawyer in me demands bylaws/OA that would probably shake out the really interesting people, so this could never happen.

In this context, something very unlikely to occur (far out in the probabilistic distribution of events, i.e., in the "tail") but with extraordinarily negative implications were it to occur. See also a "black swan" event. In short, brother, we are talking about the zombie apocalypse, which we know we must all prepare for.

I can't reveal the location for obvious reasons. It is in the western half of the U.S. though. We break no laws but also do not view ourselves as bound by them. Our goal is simply a peaceful existence. We see the cruelties of the modern world as individuals and free thinking are crushed beneath the wheels of efficiency. We raise our children to respect all living things, grow our own food, and eschew modern conveniences. We have a lot more free time now than we used to before we came here and use it to visit nature and create artwork.

We also set up a patent office recently and there's been a huge fucking problem with trolls so we're having to pay this one asshole all our food just to get the rights to build a plow, plus our producers keep reincorporating outside of our jurisdiction so they don't have to pay our 60% corporate tax rate to fund our safety net. We never should have let that attorney in.

Pumo brother, have you established routine patrols on the walls? "Defensive" systems (e.g., auto-targeting machine-gun tripods with infrared tracking capability and redundant power supplies over the grid network)? Do you have contingency plans in the event of a loss of some part of the commune's territory, e.g., if your ability to draw power from the traditional power sector (Sector Alpha) down by the canyon river were lost, have you established power shunt transfer systems to cope with this?

Yes to the first. Machine guns are auto targeting etc., but we have no illusions that we could actually combat an armed incursion by the U.S. military. Therefore much of our power is allocated to the Zoron Crystal which, as you know, allows us to shift interdimensionally should a confrontation occur. We actually just shut down the Sector Alpha power system following the Times Op-Ed today indicating that dams were bad for the environment. Currently are transitioning over to ethanol (what's more environmental than corn right?). Would like to go solar or wind but we can just can't seem to construct the units cheaply enough for it to be efficient.
