I think I was utterly shocked to read that NaShonda Cooke is a single mother of two.

I also think NaShonda shouldn’t complain about $69k not being a “livable wage.” JFC. Most teachers have it way worse. A teacher shouldn’t complain about 69k.

That said, most of the article is very good with good info. But the headline is terrible. Shouldn’t focus on the one teacher who works 3 jobs. It comes off as too extreme, probably makes people less sympathetic, & distracts from the other excellent points & data in the article.

I still thought it was a good read. XO just loves to shit on teachers.

I still think it would be cool being a teacher and getting summers off though.

I agree — it was a good article overall.

But I’ve never come close to dreading going to work every single day like I did as a teacher.

"Meanwhile, the pay gap between teachers and other comparably educated professionals is now the largest on record. [...] By last year, they made 18.7% less."

And 10 weeks of summer vacation, Christmas break, and spring break happens to be 19% of the 52 weeks in a year. Wonder if they're adjusting for that, and counting the present value of pensions, PSLF, and special teacher loan forgiveness programs / tax deductions that "other professionals" don't get. or placing a value on job security from "tenure" that does not exist for any other job.
